Permanent Lock-on

How do you get permanent lock-on in battle mode? I know it's not necessary to battle successfully but it makes things a lot easier as it saves you having to lock on after every single attack (works wonders on the Bahmud boss). I've achieved it several times through my furious button-mashing while in battle mode but I have no idea which buttons I actually pressed to make it happen. o.o

It's not in the instruction manual nor on the walkthrough. Any ideas?

It took me FOREVER to figure this out, the only reason I know being that I brought my game over to a friend's house and started a new profile.

Anyway, when you have the point you want to attack "highlighted" normally, press UP on the control pad.
If you want to break the lock, simply press DOWN on the control pad.

Trust me, it makes fights a lot easier than having to lock on each time.
